Memories - San Francisco
San Francisco, the cradle of our inspiration and an infallible point of reference for the Shutter universe: as we said in our 2013 presentation of TAKE IT EASY, the city is overflowing with life.
We love this city, where we can go from Chinatown to the historically Italian North Beach, or from the Castro to Haight-Ashbury in just a few subway or streetcar stops. It’s a city where such a diverse concentration of cultures sends shivers up your spine, where the main streets are peppered with every kind of urban creature: hippies and business men, skaters, beggars, old bourgeois, eccentrics, screaming drug addicts and dealers. In essence, a beautiful melting pot against a lovely backdrop.
Haight-Ashbury – the hippie neighborhood
One of the most emblematic and historic neighborhoods in the city, where the spirit of hippie culture can still be felt despite the loss, in part, of its roots. Hippies can still be found here, among the skaters and the dealers boldly shouting their available wares (Magic mushrooms! Crack! Cocaine! Weed! It helps to be clear.) When we were there, Haight-Ashbury also housed Stussy and the Adidas concept store, which has since been closed. In its prime, however, you could find truly unique pieces and the most popular collaborations (pictured below, you can see Mathieu wearing his finest threads in the Jeremy Scott section).
The graffiti
An omnipresent and integral dimension of the city that delights the eye.

PEOPLE & PARTY
As we may have hinted at earlier, the people of San Francisco are really cool, whether you meet them in the street or at night, on the bus or the tram (unlike St Petersburg, where I was harassed by a guy because I’d crossed my legs and the soles of my shoes were visible… but I digress. That story can be found here.)
This was the only person we encountered in San Fransciso who was not cool. He turned to look at my camera, still aimed at him, and made his displeasure very clear. This photo almost cost me my life!

After the San Francisco-themed models we released in 2013, we decided to continue on the thread of honoring this great city with one of our future t-shirts. Stay tuned!
Stay Tuned!
